Group Internal Controls Senior Manager - 18 month FTC

About the Role

The Group Senior Manager Internal Controls (18 month FTC) will lead on the development, planning and successful delivery of the Material Controls Project to enable SSP Group plc to achieve compliance with Provision 29 of the UK Corporate Governance Code 2024, in time for the publication of the FY27 Annual Report. With line management responsibility for a team of two controls specialists, they will lead, manage and be accountable for the delivery of the project, working closely with executive leadership at Group and regional levels.

 

Main responsibilities 

  • Providing leadership across all levels of the business on internal controls and the requirements of Provision 29 of the UK Corporate Governance Code 2024.
  • Development of a strategy, methodology and detailed project plan for the Material Controls project (“the project).
  • Development of a suite of high quality presentations and documentation to record and present project outputs.
  • Leadership and coordination of a team of two internal controls specialists to deliver the project to high standards of depth and quality within the required timescales – Material Controls must be identified, remediated and reported ahead of the publication of the FY27 Annual Report.
  • Engaging and working closely with Group and regional executive leadership and management to identify and evaluate key and material controls, through the delivery of controls workshops, ongoing engagement and the coordination of follow-up activity.
  • Undertaking documented reviews of all Material Controls related documents in order to maintain high standards of quality.
  • Developing trusted and productive working relationships with executive and senior management to foster a collaborative and transparent approach to the delivery of the project.
  • Supporting management in better understanding Material Controls and the wider internal control environment, and in identifying and delivering solutions to remediate identified control gaps/weaknesses.
  • Line management responsibilities for the controls team, including setting performance objectives, supporting their development, providing regular feedback and undertaking annual performance reviews.
  • Working with Internal Audit and other second-line assurance providers to develop an Assurance Map and an Assurance Strategy for Material Controls.
  • Attending Group Audit Committee, Group and regional Risk Committees meetings as required to present and discuss the progress, results and outputs of the project.

 

Person specification:

  • Qualifications - CIIA, ACA or equivalent qualified for at least 4 years.
  • Experience - Experience of leading a Material Controls project for a UK listed company.
  • Technical - In-depth understanding of internal controls and the requirements of Provision 29 of the UK Corporate Governance Code 2024.
  • Relationship building - Ability to build productive, trusted relationships with leadership and management at all levels.
  • Communication and presentation - Ability to present and discuss the project strategy, plan and results/outputs with credibility at Audit Committee, Risk Committee and Exec meetings.
  • Leadership – experience of managing and leading a small team on technical engagements, eg: internal audit, external audit, risk management etc.
  • Technology – highly adept at using Powerpoint, Excel, and Word.
  • Quality – uncompromising attention to detail, and committed to ensuring the best quality audit outputs.
